And the winner is...

First Place: John was crowned 2009's KingFatty. He lost 15.8% of his original body weight for a total of 33.5 lbs. After years of coming in second place in every competition, he has finally taken the crown in a major race. His methods may have been suspect, but they have proven to be unnecessary. Also thanks to John for supplying us all with beer, pizza and snacks to make up for all of those we have passed up in the previous 8 weeks. A celebration is in order!

Certificate reads:
Congrats to you
for winning the prize
your waist is now
a smaller size.

Second Place: Chris, with a 13.67 percentage loss overall, totaling in 30 solid pounds of weight lost. He trailed John only slightly throught the whole competition, proving to be a worthy opponent.
Certificate reads:
Congrats to you
for winning the prize.
Now you can eat
that whole pizza pie.

BMI: Chris also won in the BMI category, although John statistically won, he did not bet on it.
Certificate reads:
Its not just your height
and what you weigh.
You won this one
because John didn't pay!

Pound-for-Pound: John blew away the competition with a solid 3.5 pound lead over Chris.
Certificate reads:
You lost the most
in this year's race.
So order a pizza
and stuff your face.

Best in Show 20s: Chris won in the 20s age group.
Certificate reads:
You may have not
won the main contest
but you are the best of
the not thirty yets!

Best in Show 30s: Christy beat the rest of the thirtysomethings.
Certificate reads:
You lost the most
of the 30somethings.
So now you can eat
those buffalo wings.

Best in Show 40s: Nick was the only competitior in this category and of course won.
Certificate reads:
You lost the most
in the 40+ group.
This $5 should be
enough for a soup.

All participants who did not place recieved a Certificate
of participation. For example, Travis came in 4th place overall:
Certificate reads:
You did your best.
You lost the weight,
but someone else has
taken the cake.

Taking Its Toll

From Karleen to fattyfatoff
"The competition is taking its toll on him... Someone get him a donut!!!!"

Special Delivery

Word on the street is that John tricked Chris into giving him his address to accept a delivery of conference equipment, which of course was actually a special delivery from Papa Johns.

Trying to be a helpful, "I told him I would accept the shipment reluctantly and bring the case into work the next day," said Chris. At 11:30pm the buzzer rang. Chris went downstairs "expecting a dude with a case, and it is a dude with a large extra pepperoni and extra cheese pizza with a 2 liter diet coke."

Is this what the competition has come to?! In the final 24 hours, people will do whatever they can to gain advantage on their opponents.

Did Chris give in to the temptation of a fresh, delicious pizza at his door? Did he overload on fats and carbs with the finish line in sight?

According to an exclusive interview with Chris this morning, he states for the record, "I did not eat a slice, my g/f stopped me. :)"

Good for you, Chris!

And shame on you, John, for trying to sabotage Chris's diet!

Sparacio Sighting

John was just spotted in the kitchen. He seems to have lost a few pounds since we saw him last..

Last Minute Strategies

Only 8 days from the conclusion of this competition, everyone has their own strategy for dropping those last few pounds. Some are cutting out carbs, others salt, and still others contemplating cutting out solid food entirely.. Some seem to be secretly hoping for food poisoning or the flu for an easy drop in weight, and some have just about given up, resorting to torturing the rest of the contestants with tempting sweets and snacks. Which strategy will be the most successful? Only time will tell..

This week, Chris is trailing John by less than 1% with Christy only 1% behind that. Although John hasn't been present for a weigh in for two weeks, he is still in the lead from his last one, making him the wild card in this competition. Has he lost or gained these last two weeks? It could be anyone's game at this point. It all comes down to who has what it takes to sprint the last leg of this long race.

For those of us not in the running, is it time to take bets on these three to try to recoup the $25-$40 loss to our wallets? Who do you think is going to take the cake?

Fast Forward to Week 6

Now well into the competition, some people seem to be losing their initial momentum, while others are progressing at a consistent pace. Will slow and steady win in the end? We will just have to wait and see!

Let's take a look at the leaders this week:
  • John S.: John has always been a fierce competitor, especially in weeks 1 and 2, where he usually starts to lose momentum. Now in week 6, he is still in going strong with a net loss of a staggering 22.5 pounds (not including the 3.5 pounds he claims to have lost on the road since last week -- weighing in remotely doesn't count as an official weight, sorry John).

  • Chris: Chris started off in a full sprint, with some speculating that he was not prepared for the marathon that lay ahead of him. Even after some traveling and some much deserved PTO, he still is holding strong with a commanding 21.5 pounds lost and still on a losing streak. Will he be able to pass John in the next two weeks?

  • Christy: This three-time FattyFatOff winner is holding her own in this year's competition, inching her way up to third place this week. While she isn't dropping 10 pounds a week like John or Chris, she is working hard and making steady progress. Don't count her out of the running just yet.

Honorable mentions go out to Joe and Renee for their hard work and consistent weight loss throughout the past 6 weeks. They both have shown that they are dedicated to not only losing weight for the sake of this competition, but to long-term choices to be healthier, which is the point of doing this in the first place.

First Week

With the competition just ramping up, it is yet to be seen who will take the lead in the weeks to come. Everyone is getting started with their new diets and exercise routines and working hard (or preparing to do so). We are looking forward to see where we all stand with the second weigh-in only 24 hours away!

Who will the front-runners be? Who will succumb to the temptation of the box of candy left out in the open? The nachos? Who has the will power to be the Fatty Champion?
